Advanced Practice Providers (APP) Program

Advanced Practice Providers or APPs include certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), nurse practitioners (NPs), and PAs (formerly known as physician assistants). APPs are viewed and supported as highly-valuable professional providers and collaborative members of the care team that deliver accessible, high-quality, and patient-centered care. APPs diagnose, prescribe, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and first assist on surgical procedures.

APPs at UCI Health are an essential part of helping the organization meet its strategic mission: teach, discover, and heal. At UCI Health, we have 216 APPs (134 NPs, 58 CRNAs, and 24 PAs) and growing. The APP Program is overseen by Vasco Deon Kidd, DHSc, MPH, MS, PA-C, Director of Advanced Practice.

Total APP workforce: 216 APPs

The UCI Health Advanced Practice Providers Program is a centralized program that provides five key functions in support of APPs; 1) Regulatory and compliance, 2) Advocacy and outreach, 3) Program management, 4) Physician education, and 5) APP Professional development.
